Haverhill students will be returning to their classrooms beginning in April.
The Haverhill School Committee last Thursday approved a plan submitted by Superintendent Margaret Marotta to phase-in full-time, back-to-classroom learning beginning Monday, April 5. Marotta said the schedule was based on the recommendation of state Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley.
Specifically, Haverhill’s phase-in will have all kindergarten and grade one students in the classroom beginning April 5, while all cohort A students in grades 2-12 will attend in person on April 5 and 6. All students will attend remotely on April 7. On April 8 and 9, all students kindergarten through grade four will attend in person along with cohort B students grades 5-12.

During its Human Rights meeting on 9-11 March, the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers examined the execution of the
C.G. and Others group of cases against Bulgaria. These cases concern shortcomings in the system of judicial review of expulsion on national security grounds and detention pending such expulsion; failure to examine rigorously claims of risk of death and ill-treatment in the destination country; and the lack of a remedy with automatic suspensive effect to prevent expulsion when arguable claims are made of such risks.

The Social Organisation of the Municipality of Patras (KODIP) has recently launched full operation of the “Unit for Roma”, as part of the Community Centre, aiming at the upgrading of the living standards of Roma people and their full social integration. This will be achieved through the provision of specialised services, tailored to the specific challenges faced by the target group, that include: mediation – networking with useful administrative structures and services – information and awareness e.g. on health and education programmes - prevention - strengthening the educational process for adults and minors - counseling, training and promotion of employment opportunities.
